Obituary

Raymond Russell Hicks, 81, of Wolcottville died Thursday, September 16, 2021, at his residence with his family at his side.

He was born October 3, 1939, in Jolo, West Virginia, to Raymond and Carmie (Arnold) Hicks.

On February 29, 1964, in Harman, Virginia, he married Darlene "Doll" Yates. She preceded him in death on August 2, 2006. Then, on March 2, 2015, in Wolcottville he married Fanny (Tomblin) Overby.

Mr. Hicks retired as a machinist at Atwood Mobile Products in LaGrange. Being an ordained minister at the age of 24, he served as an elder at Little Flossie Old Regular Baptist Church for many years.

Russell enjoyed gardening. He was excited to see God's creatures in the wild and view the first frost or snowfall. He loved all of nature.

Surviving are his wife, Fanny Hicks of Wolcottville; two sons, Sean (Tammi) Hicks of Ligonier and Tim Hicks of Lexington, Kentucky; a step daughter, Connie (Todd) Orrill of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; two grandchildren, Tanner Russell Hicks and Cassidy Shae Hicks; three step grandchildren, Terri (Terry) Burks, Traci Thompson, and Travis Thompson; five step great-grandchildren, Zach Becker, Slade Becker, Tawnie Burks, Jax Thompson, and Jamison Thompson; three sisters, Evelyn (Gran) Roberts of Ligonier, Alice Johnson of Cromwell, and Fronie Payne of Whitewood, Virginia; and four brothers, Harrison (Sandy) Hicks of Topeka, Amos Hicks of Paynesville, West Virginia, Joshua (Belle) Hicks of Paynesville, West Virginia; and Ronald Hicks of Argos.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Clara Johnson.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 21, 2021, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Little Flossie Old Regular Baptist Church. An evening service will be held at 6 p.m.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the church with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating.

Burial will follow at Orange Cemetery near Rome City.

Pallbearers are Tanner Hicks, Todd Orrill, Travis Thompson, Harold Hicks, Zach Collins, and Preston Lewis.

Preferred memorials may be directed to Little Flossie Old Regular Baptist Church.

Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville is assisting the family with arrangements.
