R.J. Combs, 84, of Rome City died Saturday, October 31, 2015, at 7:10 p.m. in North Ridge Village in Albion.
He moved to this area at the age of 18, coming from Kentucky.
Mr. Combs retired from Newnam Foundry in Kendallville after 42 years where he worked as a machine operator.
He was a member of the Little Flossie Old Regular Baptist Church in Lisbon.
R.J. enjoyed fishing and all types of hunting, but he especially liked University of Kentucky basketball.
He was born March 24, 1931, in Knott County, Kentucky, to Robert L. and Doshia (Young) Combs.
On June 13, 1949, in Knott County, Kentucky, he married Elizabeth "Lizzie" Short. She preceded him in death on February 18, 2008.
Surviving are two daughters, Lydia (Mike) Bell of East Lansing, Michigan, and Mylea Morgan of Rome City; a son, Lamont (Linda Klein) Combs of Kendallville; four grandchildren, Melissa Baldridge, Jeremy Fugate, Robbie Fugate, and Coy (Marta) Baldridge; three great grandchildren, Shai-Lynn Baldridge, Robert Fugate, and Mya Fugate; and a sister, Corie Messer of Knott County, Kentucky.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Grace Combs; four brothers, Alvin Combs, Kelly Combs, Ernest Combs, and Ruebal Combs; and a great granddaughter, Makayla Baldridge.
Funeral services will be Thursday, November 5, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. in Little Flossie Old Regular Baptist Church in Lisbon with Elders Russell Hicks, Sean Hicks, and Morris Wicker officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery, Rome City.
Pallbearers will be Lamont Combs, Coy Baldridge, Gabe Argueta, Robert Fugate, Jeremy Fugate, and Robbie Fugate.
Calling is Tuesday, November 3, 2015, after 4 p.m. and all day Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at the church. An evening service will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville is assisting the family with arrangements.
