Polly Griffith, 94, of Goshen and formerly of Marshall, Michigan, died Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at 3:30 a.m. in Courtyard Healthcare Center in Goshen.
Mrs. Griffith had lived in Goshen since January, 2008. In 1946, she moved to Albion, Michigan, coming from Kentucky.
She was a homemaker, and a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church.
She was born September 7, 1915, in Salyersville, Kentucky, to Lacie and Gracie (Allen) Allen. On August 13, 1936, in Kentucky she married Henry Poe. He preceded her in death on August 13, 1981. She then married Richard Griffith on May 27, 1989, in Marshall, Michigan. He preceded her in death on June 8, 2002.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Darel Caudill of Middlebury; 12 grandchildren; one step grandson; 24 great grandchildren; one step great granddaughter; one great great grandchild; five sisters, Ruby Fletcher of Salyersville, Kentucky, Loretta Wright of Belleville, Michigan, Donna Baker of Litchfield, Michigan, Hannah Roe of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Henrietta Music of Marshall, Michigan; and a brother, Cisco Allen of Quincy, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Ruth Poe and Mary Halcomb; and a son, James Poe; two sisters, Princie Allen and Lena Farmer; two brothers, Haden Allen and Woodrow Allen; a son-in-law, Dennis Halcomb; a daughter-in-law, Susan Poe; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 30, 2010, at 10 a.m. in Little Flossie Old Regular Baptist Church, Kendallville, with Elder Russell Hicks officiating. Burial will be Friday at 3 p.m. in the West Eckford Cemetery, Marshall, Michigan.
Calling is Thursday, April 29, 2010, after 1 p.m. at the church, where there will be an evening service at 6 p.m.
Arrangements are by Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.
