Phyllis I. Simmons, 86, of Kendallville Indiana died Friday, May 3, 2024, at Parkview DeKalb Hospital in Auburn.
She was born January 14, 1938, in Kendallville to Raymond and Evelyn (Wagner) Acker.
On July 29, 1956, in Syracuse she married Larry L. Simmons. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2015.
Phyllis had worked in the cafeteria and as a night custodian at Kendallville Middle School. She then began her career with King-Seeley in Kendallville, it changed names to Eaton, and when she retired after 22 years with the company it was known as Seibe.
Phyllis was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Kendallville.
She enjoyed playing Bingo, reading, camping and was a very dedicated mother.
Surviving are two sons, Jeffrey (Bobbi) Simmons of Butler and Patrick (Sue) Simmons of Butler; nine grandchildren, Tony Bolen of Butler, Nathen (Dana) Simmons of Auburn, Stephanie Simmons of Butler, Rebecca Simmons of Butler, Andrew (Cate) Simmons of Huntington, Justin Simmons of Huntington, Jessica Simmons of Butler, Tasha Simmons of Hudson, and Shalea Simmons of Fort Wayne; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Brian Simmons and Phillip Simmons; and a great granddaughter, Abigail Renee "Abby" Reid.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 10, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, 411 Harding Street, Kendallville with Pastor Doug Thomas of Auburn Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Simmons, Patrick Simmons, Tony Bolen, Nathen Simmons, Andrew Simmons, and Justin Simmons.
Calling is Thursday, May 9, 2024, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral services all at the church.
Preferred memorials are to Faith United Methodist Church.
