Patricia Engle, 75, of Kendallville died Saturday, April 23, 2011, at 10:58 p.m. in DeKalb Memorial Hospital, Auburn.
Mrs. Engle was a lifetime area resident. She had worked at the Garrett Head Start, Hubbard Spool in Garrett, was a cook at Floyd's now the Railroad Inn in Garrett, did house cleaning, and took care of the elderly.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville. She was also a former member of the Kendallville Moose Lodge.
She was born April 12, 1936, in Noble County to Jack and Thelma (Schmidt) Trowbridge. She was married to George Brumbaugh, and he preceded her in death in October, 1999. She then married William "Bill" Engle. He survives in Kendallville.
Also surviving are two sons, Garnel Handshoe, Jr. of Garrett and George A. Brumbaugh, II of Garrett; a daughter, Catherine E. Keck and her companion, Clifford Roberts of Kendallville; three stepsons, Marshall (Linda) Brumbaugh of Garrett, Jeff Brumbaugh of Kendallville and Michael William (Patty) Engle of Fort Wayne; a granddaughter she raised, Jessica Marzion of Kendallville; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; six sisters, Donna Conrad of Kendallville, Helen Gillespie of Garrett, Judith Pretschold of Mt. Prospect, Illinois, Jeanne Fredrickson of Avilla, Karen Conrad of Elkhart, and Janet Vian of Waterloo; and three brothers, Larry Trowbridge, Steven Trowbridge, and Daniel Trowbridge all of Kendallville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Christina K. (Handshoe) See and Rose Ann (Handshoe) Devereau; a great granddaughter, Christina Mae Handshoe; and a brother, Robert Lee Trowbridge.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Kendallville with Father James Stoyle officiating. Burial will be in Sweet Cemetery.
Calling is Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville. A prayer vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to the American Diabetes Association.
