Paquita M. "Pat" Kurtz, 95, a lifelong resident of Kendallville went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 7, 2010, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Kurtz graduated at the top of her class from Kendallville High School. She and her husband, Wade, owned and operated a popcorn stand located at the corner of Mitchell and Main Streets in Kendallville. She was manager of Rimmel's Hat Shop, and worked at Swartzlander's Jewelry Store both in Kendallville.
She was very active in the community. She was a member of the Professional Business Women's Association in Kendallville where she was awarded the Business Woman of the Year for 2000-2001. She was also a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Kendallville VFW and the American Legion Auxilary in Kendallville. She was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville where she was involved in numerous church activities.
She was an avid bridge and eucre player, enjoyed bingo, and loved to crochet.
She was born December 23, 1914, in Kendallville to Orrie and Mary (Lash) Ihrie. On January 27, 1940, in Kendallville she married Wade Kurtz.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, James Wade and Drenda Kurtz of Fort Wayne; two grandchildren, Paula and Bob Kennedy of Fort Wayne and Todd Kurtz of Fort Wayne; and three great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Kennedy, Caleb Kurtz, and Noah Kurtz; a sister, Theresia Aumsbaugh of Churubusco; and a brother, Devon Ihrie and companion Flo Glick of Kendallville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Kurtz on March 10, 1967; two sisters, Eileen Krull and Amy Gongwer; and a brother, Don Ihrie.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Kendallville, with Father Jim Stoyle officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
Honorary casketbearer will be John Baker. Active casketbearers will be Todd Kurtz, Mike Ihrie, Dan Ihrie, Steve Ihrie, Weldon Cline, and Randy Aumsbaugh.
Calling will be Tuesday, May 11, 2010, from 3 to 7 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville where there will be a prayer vigil at 6:30 p.m.
Preferred memorials are masses to the church.
