Oscar Slone, 74, of Rome City died Saturday, June 13, 2020, at his residence.
He was born July 13, 1945, in Hindman, Kentucky, to Elles and Tina Mae Slone.
He honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1966 and saw active duty in Vietnam.
On September 29, 1990, at Salem United Baptist Church he married Barbara A. Tuttle. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2020.
Mr. Slone attended Salem United Baptist Church and was a member of Rome City American Legion Post 381.
He worked as a foreman in area factories and drove truck for 42 years.
Oscar enjoyed playing pool and loved being with his grandkids. Always being the jokester in the crowd, his family is confident that Mama now has her first donkey back!
Surviving are five sons, David Oscar (Gwen) Slone of Pleasant Lake, Stephen (Melanie) Slone of Garner, Kentucky, Stacey (Leslie) Slone of Panama City, Florida; Larry Christopher (Stephanie) Bailey of Wawaka, and Jay (Tami) Bailey of Stroh, a daughter, Corinne Perkins of HUdson; 15 grandchildren, Jaylyn Bailey, Kaytlyn Bailey, Charity Slone, Alex Slone, Matthew Slone, Andrew Slone, Delzy Chilcote, Autumn Chilcote, Vincent Chilcote, Faith Slone, Lindsay Miller, JJ Miller, Anthony Martin, Dustin Martin, and Shaun Shirely; two great grandsons, Sebastian Dalton and Domanick Shirely; two brothers, Elmer (Eileen) Slone of Auburn and Earl (Jenny) Slone of Wayland, Kentucky; a sister, Beulah Hayden of Arizona; and two very special friends, Homer Smith and Roger Watts.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; two granddaughters, Samantha Bailey and Caitlyn Martin; and a grandson, Bart Thompson; and a brother, Carl Slone.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Salem United Baptist Church, 8227 N State Road 9, Kendallville with Pastor Glen Jackson and Pastor Phil Lucas officiating. Burial will follow at Orange Township Cemetery, Rome City.
A live broadcast of the service will be available for viewing on the Young Family Funeral Home Facebook page Wednesday at 11 a.m.
Honor guard services will be provided by the Veterans Honor Guard.
Pallbearers are Alex Slone, Shaun Shirely, Jeff Miller, Kyle Moore, Shawn Tuttle, and Terry Tuttle. Calling is Monday, June 15, 2020, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville.

Calling will also be Tuesday, June 16, 2020, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Salem United Baptist Church and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. An evening service will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to Young Family Funeral Home for funeral expenses.
