Funeral services will be Monday, October 6, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the Towne House Chapel, 2209 St. Joe Center Road, Fort Wayne. Burial will be at 1 p.m. on Monday in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
Calling will be one hour prior to the service at the Towne House Chapel. **************************************************************************************** Orpha Jean Bently, 95, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Kendallville went to her heavenly home on October 2, 2014.
She had lived at the Towne House in Fort Wayne since April, 1999.
Orpha Jean was born April 21, 1919, in Kendallville to Robert Earl and Agnes (Smith) Preston and lived there most of her life. She was a graduate of Ball State University and the Real Estate Institute.
On November 24, 1938, in Kendallville, she married George K. Bently. He preceded her in death on October 29, 2010.
Mrs. Bently was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kendallville, where she had been an elder, taught Sunday school, directed Junior Choir and had sung in the Adult Choir for over 60 years. She served as a Private First Class in the Civil Air Patrol during WWII, making survival plans for Kendallville in the event of an enemy air strike. She was also a member of Sigma Eta Fine Arts and the Beta chapter of Tri Kappa while in Kendallville.
Orpha Jean spent her adult life as a homemaker, teacher, and eventually a realtor for Hosler Realty, receiving the award of "Realtor of the Year" before retiring in 1980. She loved helping families find homes and "selling Kendallville".
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, William G. and Charlotte Bently of Bloomington; cousin, Dorothy Schlatter of Fort Wayne; three grandchildren, Andy Bently (Jozi) of Sherwood, Oregon, Lisa Bently (Michael) of New Zealand and Wendy Abshier (Matt) of Springfield, Illinois; and six great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Preston Bently; a sister, Eileen Bosshard; and a brother, Harold Seltenright.
Funeral services will be Monday, October 6 at 11 a.m.in the Towne House Chapel, 2209 St. Joe Center Road, Fort Wayne with Pastor Doug Vogel officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
Calling will be one hour prior to the service at the Towne House Chapel.
Preferred memorials are to the Towne House Good Neighbor Fund or Parkview Hospice.
Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville is assisting the family with arrangements.
