Opal (Combs) Gibson, 94, formerly of Wolcottville, went to be with Jesus Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at Northridge Village in Albion.
Opal worked at Essex Wire in Ligonier and Lyall Electric in Albion, prior to retiring.
She was born in Smithsboro, Kentucky, to Ira and Pheba (Jent) Combs on July 22, 1926. On February 9, 1946 she married Corbett Gibson in Harlan, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on June 27, 1996.
Opal was a devoted mother and wife, who loved her family dearly. She had a contagious laugh and wonderful sense of humor that all enjoyed. She was also deeply devoted to her relationship with God and her church family. Even through her later years, when unable to attend her church, Five Corners Baptist, she continued to express her love and devotion to God.
She was a gifted artist through knitting and crocheting. She also spent many summers tending a garden and falls canning for the winter. More than anything, Opal enjoyed spending time with her family.

Vernon, Illinois; a brother Olvin (Donna) Combs of Parrish, Georgia; granddaughter Jennifer (Tom) Tuttle of Wolcottville; great-grandsons Noah and Aiden Tuttle of Wolcottville and a step granddaughter Carly Crowell of Albion.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Sam Combs; sisters, Beulah Francis and Retha McGeorge; her son-in-law, Clarence Combs; as well as her parents.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at 1 p.m. at Five Corners Baptist Church, Wolcottville with Pastor Barry St. Clair officiating. Burial will follow at Orange Cemetery near Rome City.
Visitation is Tuesday from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.
Per the Governor, face masks are required.
