Oley Smith, 65, of Mongo died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at his residence.
He was born January 24, 1954, in Paintsville, Kentucky, to Arthur and Henrietta (Oliver) Smith.
On July 9, 1977, in West Virginia he married Shirley Bolen.
Mr. Smith served as the Pastor at the Stroh United Baptist Church. He previously operated his own business, TT&T Trucking. He formerly worked at Starcraft Boats in Topeka and Vestil Manufacturing in Angola.
Oley enjoyed coon hunting, playing horseshoes, and being with his family. Among his greatest joys was as a volunteer in jail ministry at the Angola jail and the Chain of Lakes Correctional Facility near Albion, going to church, and helping people.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Smith of Mongo; daughter, Jennie (Stacy) Faulkner of Ethridge, Tennessee; three sons, Timothy (Virginia) Smith of Kendallville, Arthur (Charity Sparklin) Smith of South Milford, and Billie (Audrey Garcia) Smith of South Milford; eight grandchildren, Aavery Faulkner, Brittany Smith, Maddyson Smith, Mackenzie Smith, Dakota Smith, Hayden Smith, Elijah Smith, and Jeffrey Smith; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Kathleen (John) Slone of Columbia City, Edwina (Jim) Patrick of Warsaw, and Naomi Smith of Columbia City; three brothers, Bud (Dawn) Smith of Mongo, Doug (Maria) Smith of Ligonier, and Mack (Ann Martinez) Smith of Ligonier; a sister-in-law, Linda (Verlo) Bontrager of Stroh; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Bolen of LaGrange.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Emma Grace Smith; two sisters, Edna Smith and Betty Ann Smith Rodman; a brother, Harold Dean Smith; and two brothers-in-law, Bill Bolen and Larry Bolen.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at 1 p.m. at the Church of the True God, north of South Milford, with Pastor Ron Bell officiating. Burial will be in Brushy Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Tim Smith, Hot Rod Smith, Billie Smith, Stacy Faulkner, Kenny Fugate, Hubba Bubba Moore, Eli Smith, and Bill Wicker.
Calling is Monday, July 22, 2019, after 2 p.m. at the Church of the True God where there will be an evening service at 6 p.m.
Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville is assisting the family with arrangements.
