Former Kendallville business owner Duke (Norman) Miller ended his journey at age 74 on May 6, 2009
Norman K. "Duke" Miller, 74, of Angola and formerly of Sylvan Lake, Rome City, died Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at 4:35 p.m. in his residence.
He attended Concordia Military School in Fort Wayne through his Junior year. His family moved to Kendallville, and he graduated in 1952 from Kendallville High School. After high school, Mr. Miller began his career working at International Harvester in Fort Wayne. In 1955, the Miller family built a show room and garage on US 6, and named the business Miller Motors. Mr. Miller and his family owned and operated Miller's Restaurant, CMW Transport in Kendallville and Miller Motel. Duke retired in 1990. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1956 to 1958. He had resided in Angola since 2003.
He enjoyed playing cards and games with his grandchildren. He was a very good vocalist, and loved the lake and boating.
He was born June 5, 1934, in Fort Wayne to Harold H. and Laura (Pettit) Miller. He was married March 12, 1988, in Las Vegas to Debra L. Moore.
Surviving are his wife, Debra L. (Moore) Miller of Angola; a stepdaughter and her husband, Tami and Jim Aaron of Angola; a daughter and son-in-law, Roxanne and Steve May of Louden, Tennessee; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Greg and Deb Miller of Kendallville; Terry Miller of Rome City; Danny and Patty Miller of Phoenix, Arizona; and James Miller of Ligonier; grandchildren, including Tyler Miller, Nicholas Miller, Dustin Abbs, Kelcie Miller, Holly Miller, April May, Jewel May, Kenna Aaron and Kalli Aaron; a brother, David Miller of Rome City; and a special nephew, Kim Miller of Rome City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Harold Miller and Jean Miller, and a sister, Gloria Miller.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 9, 2009, at 6 p.m. in the Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, with Pastor Bill Hambright of the Salem Center United Methodist Church officiating. Military services will be provided by Kendallville VFW Post 2749.
Visitation will be Friday, May 8, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
