Norman H. Crothers, 86, of Kendallville died Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at 4:20 a.m. at Village Oaks Assisted Living in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Crothers had lived most of his life in Kendallville. He had worked for Harrod Roofing in Kendallville, and was the owner of Crothers Sheet Metal in Kendallville.
He had served in the Marine Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Kendallville VFW Post 2749 and American Legion Post 86.
He was an avid reader, and loved sailing and photography.
He was born July 30, 1924, in South Bend to Clifford H. and Merle (Wilson) Crothers. On October 13, 1948, in Kendallville he married Joan E. Trowbridge. She preceded him in death on December 12, 2009.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Robert Shippy of Fort Wayne; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Kim Crothers of Syracuse; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Miller-Crothers Kern of Kendallville; five grandchildren, R. Andrew Shippy of Fort Wayne, Kathryn Shippy-Ziegler and Ryan Ziegler of Fort Wayne, Abigail Crothers Brendel and R. Baron Brendel of Lafayette, Julie Crothers of Syracuse, and Jennifer Crothers of Syracuse; two great grandsons, Jack Ziegler and Robert Craig Brendel; two brothers, Sheridan Crothers of Seattle, Washington and Fredrick Crothers of San Diego, California; and a sister-in-law, Jeanne Harrod of Kendallville.
He was preceded in death by a son, Craig Crothers on September 23, 2004.
A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, September 26, 2010 at 2:00 p.m.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 26, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to the Alzheimer's Association.
