Obituary

Nelda Maxine (Rowlison) Cummins, 77, of Rome City died Friday, April 18, 2008, at 11:05 pm in Shepherd of the Hill in Kendallville. She had been at the nursing home since March, coming from Rome City where she had resided for 45 years.

Mrs. Cummins was a homemaker and had worked several years in the housekeeping department of McCray Memorial Hospital in Kendallville. She was a member of the Rome City United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting and jigsaw puzzles.

She was born May 24, 1930, in Stroh to Justus Floyd and Ersel (Deal) Rowlison. She was married August 15, 1952, in Stroh to Clarence Christopher Cummins. He preceded her in death on October 2, 1996.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Marianne and Samuel Slone of Rome City and Tina and Russell "Dion" Hippenhammer of Kendallville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald "Skip" and Jackie Rowlison of Stroh, Donald and Tonya Cummins of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Harold and Connie Cummins of Rome City; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two sisters, Wanda Amburgey of Stroh and Arvilla Castner of West Otter Lake.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Dorothy Mapes, Nordell VanZile, Doris Hardesty, and Beverly Rowlison, and four brothers, John, Floyd, Tim, and Justus Eugene "Buck" Rowlison.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at 10 am at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Rev. Mike McKinney of the Rome City United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Sweet Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Cory Combs, Scott Rowlison, Philip Weaver, Ryan McNamara, Jeremy Weaver, Henry Williams, Danny Castner, and R.B. Amburgey.

Visitation will be Monday, April 21, 2008, from 1-4 and 6-8 pm and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to Parkview Noble Home Health and Hospice, Orange Township Fire Department, Rome City United Methodist Church, American Diabetes Association, or American Cancer Society.
