Nancy Joan Mitchell, 87, of Avilla, Indiana, died Sunday, November 2, 2025, at her residence.

She was born September 23, 1938, in Kendallville, Indiana, to Urban and Helen (Coffelt) Drerup.

She married James E. Mitchell. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2001.

She was a registered nurse having worked at McCray Memorial Hospital in Kendallville. She retired as the Noble County Nurse and later worked at Kendallville Manor Health Care Center in Kendallville.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville and American Legion Post 86 Auxiliary.

Nancy loved watching old westerns, The Lone Ranger, Walker Texas Ranger, and Perry Mason. She never missed an episode of The Golden Girls. And nothing made her smile quite like the music of Elvis Presley.

Surviving are a daughter, Carmen Fleck of Rome City; two sons, Adam Huffman of Bonita, Oklahoma, and Brett (Tamara) Huffman of Kendallville; three grandchildren, Ethan Huffman, Lisa (Bob) Palmer, and Keri Huffman; four great-grandchildren, Noah, Logan, Lily, and Addylyn; two sisters, Rosemary Jones of Auburn and Jean Ann Bishop of Auburn; and a brother, William (Barbara) Drerup of Avilla.

Visitation will be Friday, November 7, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.

Nancy's funeral service will be Friday, November 7, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Tom Novy officiating.

Private burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
