Obituary

Morris Dean "Mo" Barker, 61, of Kendallville died Friday, May 20, 2016, in his residence.

He was a lifetime area resident and a 1973 graduate of East Noble High School.

He was sales manager and assisted his mother at Barker's Jewelry Store in Kendallville, which his parents began 60 years ago.

Mr. Barker was an active member of the Church of Christ on East North Street in Kendallville.

Mo was active in East Noble Theater and was a member of the "Changing Seasons". He went into professional entertainment right out of high school and was a member of the "Park Avenue Kids". He and his wife performed as "Starfire" and entertained audiences from New York City to Las Vegas, Chicago, Michigan, and on many cruise ships. He was a member of the Applesauce Quartet, performing at the Apple Festival of Kendallville and throughout the community. His family stated, "He was the best piano player this side of Heaven".

He was born November 3, 1954, in Kendallville to Robert M. and Ruth E. (Bange) Barker. His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Kendallville.

In September, 1978, he married Vicki Lee Miles. She preceded him in death on March 30, 2002.

Surviving are a daughter, Stephanie V. Barker of Kendallville; a son, Sam M. Barker of Chicago; a sister, Cherris (Louie) Lehman of Kendallville; two nieces, Cyndi (Ben) Fetrow of Kendallville and Jennifer "Jamila" (Bob) Davey of Austin, Texas; and his fiancé, Lisa Hein of Avilla.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, David Barker.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Michael Kirby of the Church of Christ in Kendallville officiating.

Calling is Tuesday, May 24, 2016, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
