Obituary

Michael Gale Young, 66, of Tri-Lakes near Columbia City died Sunday, April 9, 2017, in his residence following a lengthy illness.

He was born January 8, 1951, in Wolf Lake to Carl Gale and Mary Elizabeth (Buckles) Young.

Mr. Young retired as a crane operator, heavy equipment operator, and union organizer for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 103. He had previously worked for Brooks Construction, Gage Bros., Empire Sand & Gravel, and Central Crane.

Through the years, he has been active in the Gaslight Playhouse Community Theater in Kendallville, and the PIT Theater, Civic Theater, and First Presbyterian Theater all in Fort Wayne.

Mike enjoyed genealogy and was one of the family historians. He was a fan of Detroit Tigers baseball. A peaceful view of the lake and watching birds and ducks from his living room was his refuge.

Surviving are a sister, Dianne (Alan) Baker of Warren; five brothers, Patrick (Kathy) Young of Kendallville, Jeff (Sherry) Young of Fort Wayne, Jim (Pam) Young of Fort Wayne, Gage Schrader of Fort Wayne, and Grant (Joelle) Schrader of Leo; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Carl G. Young; his mother, Mary E. Schrader; and his stepfather, Max Schrader.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 14, 2017, at 2 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor James Pettit of Lakewood Park Baptist Church in Auburn officiating. Burial will be in Christian Chapel Cemetery in Merriam.

Pallbearers will be Pat Young, Dianne Baker, Jeff Young, Jim Young, Gage Schrader, and Grant Schrader.

Preferred memorials are to the Gaslight Playhouse Community Theater, P.O. Box 84, Kendallville, Indiana, 46755 or to the First Presbyterian Theater, 300 W. Wayne Street, Fort Wayne, 46802.

Calling is Thursday, April 13, 2017, from 3 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Friday.
