Michael Wayne Gordon, 56, of Avilla died Monday, March 22, 2010, at 11:45 p.m. in the V.A. Medical Center in Marion.
Mr. Gordon attended Emmanuel St. Michael Lutheran School in Fort Wayne, and graduated from East Noble High School in 1972. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1972-1976, and was stationed at the SAC Air Command in Omaha, Nebraska, and the Air Force Base in Rheinstein, Germany. He was a computer operator, and a member of the Avilla American Legion Post 240.
Mike was born March 22, 1954, in Columbia City to Ronald and Nancy J. (Deetz) Gordon.
He is survived by two sons, Colin James Gordon and special friend Lesley Malone of Indianapolis and Ethan Michael Gordon of Albion; his mother, Nancy J. Gordon of Avilla; his father and stepmother, Ronald & Dee Gordon of Fremont; four brothers and a sister-in-law, Paul & Beth Gordon of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, Roger Gordon of Auburn, John Gordon of Kendallville, and Scott Gordon of Kendallville; two stepbrothers, Kevin & April Robinson of Fremont, and Khris Robinson of Pleasant Lake; a stepsister, Kelly Brown of East St. Louis, Illinois; two nephews, Andrew Gordon and Austin Gordon both of Pleasant Prairie, Wisoncon; a niece, Arrin Gordon, Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin; lifelong friends, Gary & Martha Dafforn of Kendallville and their family, Chris, Laurie, Trevor & Megan and Jenny, Theo, Mackenzye & Griffen; and close family friend, Melinda Shepard.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Carla Diane Gordon in 1960; maternal grandparents, Willis & Mildred "Peg" Deetz; and paternal grandparents, Lawrence & Elizabeth Gordon.
Calling is Friday, March 26, 2010, from 4-7 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville and one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the church.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 27, 2010, at 2 p.m. in Emmanuel Lutheran Church, LaOtto, with Pastor Sue Socha and Pastor Phyllis Smoot officiating.
Honor guard services will be conducted by American Legion Post 240.
Preferred memorials are to the USO or the American Cancer Society.
