Obituary

Melissa Sue (Gray) Darling, 45, of Rome City passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2017, in Parkview Regional Medical Center as the result of a motorcycle accident that occurred on Monday at U.S. 6 and County Road 19 near Corunna.

She was born September 28, 1971, in Fort Wayne to Wilton and Myrlee (Sizemore) Gray. They survived in Rome City.

On September 21, 2010, in Kendallville she married Jason Darling. He survives in Kendallville.

She earned her degree as a Registered Nurse from the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne. She had worked at Kendallville Manor Nursing and Rehab in Kendallville, Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, and Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Melissa enjoyed music, singing, and playing the guitar. Being a creative person, she wrote poetry and music. But, most of all, she loved the water and being outside whether she was camping, fishing, or sitting around a bonfire.

She was always thinking of and doing for others. Her last act of kindness was to give the gift of life through organ donation.

Also surviving are a daughter, Kelsey Parsons of Fort Wayne; a son, Brennen Parsons of Rome City; two brothers, Joel (Emilee Treesh) Gray of Rome City and Justin (Casey) Gray of Rome City; two stepdaughters; two nephews, Devyn Gray and Michael Gray; and numerous loving family members.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Gray; a sister, Tina Gray; and her grandparents.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Larry Anglemyer, Sr. of Hilltop Baptist Church in Rome City officiating. Burial will be in Woodruff Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearer will be Devyn Gray. Active pallbearers will be Kelsey Parsons, Brennen Parsons, Jason Darling, Joel Gray, Justin Gray, Mike Lewis, John Smart, and Joshua Bauman.

Calling is Tuesday, May 2, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to the family or to the Brain Injury Association of Indiana.
