Obituary

Maxine (Hicks) Handshoe, 75, of Hudson went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at 5 a.m. in the emergency room at Cameron Hospital in Angola.

She moved to this area in 1964, coming from Ohio.

She was a homemaker.

Maxine's family was her pride and joy, especially all of her babies. She enjoyed cooking, being outdoors, and loved her dog, Angel.

She was born November 10, 1940, in Mousie, Kentucky to Edgil Hicks and Melda (Sparkman) McDaniel.

She married the love of her life, Cledis Handshoe on July 5, 1957, in Ohio. He preceded her in death on August 21, 2015.

Surviving are a son, Alvin (Donna) Handshoe of LaGrange; three daughters, Arlene (Larry) Smith of LaGrange, Diana (Steve) Vanderpool of LaGrange, and Veronica (Gary) Shepherd of Angola; 10 grandchildren, Christopher, Eric, Amy, Tonya, Kristen, Sabrina, Heather, Michael, Ashley, and Allen; 21 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Jean Green, Anna Rose Fields, and Jenny Hicks all of Illinois.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Robert Edward Handshoe and Douglas Handshoe; two daughters, Tammy Sue Handshoe and Debra Lynn Handshoe; grandson, Jamie Smith; three sisters, Anna Mae, Brenda, and Versia; and a brother, Junior Hicks.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 18, 2016, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Willie Collins officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, LaGrange.

Pallbearers will be Chris Vanderpool, Eric Smith, Allen Smith, Eric Milliman, Jeremy Arnett, and Gary Shepherd.

Calling is Thursday, March 17, 2016, from 2 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Friday.
