Obituary

Maxine J. Hamlin, 84, of Avilla and formerly of Kendallville died Tuesday, February 7, 2017, in Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville.

She was born August 13, 1932, in Kendallville to Carrol and Grace (Truelove) Friskney.

On February 6, 1953, she married Atlee Eugene Hamlin. He survives in Avilla. They were honored to celebrate their 64th wedding anniversary on Monday.

Mrs. Hamlin was a lifetime area resident and a 1951 graduate of Kendallville High School.

She retired in 1993 from the Noble County License Branch in Kendallville.

Maxine enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, and cross stitch. She also enjoyed doing puzzles, shopping, and traveling. And, she dearly loved spending time with her family.

Also surviving are a daughter, Deborah (George) Hall of Auburn; four sons, Michael (Mary) Hamlin of Plainfield, Craig (Cheryl) Hamlin of Kendallville, Roger (Julie) Hamlin of Fort Wayne, and Ritchie (Dawn) Hamlin of Corunna; 12 grandchildren, Scott (Meghan) Hamlin, Julie (Mike) Hamlin Lee, Jenny (Dan) Hall Hartman, Christina Hall, Marcus Hamlin, Ben Hamlin, Matthew Hamlin, Katie Hamlin, Laura Hall, Chris Hamlin, Jesse Hamlin, and Erin Hamlin; five great-grandchildren, Mya Bontrager, Ava Kinnaley, Beckett Hamlin, Henry Kinnaley, and Kendall Lee; two sisters, Lois Jean Young of Avilla and Pat Newman of Rome City; and a brother, Lee (Bonnie) Friskney of Seffner, Florida.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Luke and a brother, Merlin Friskney.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 11, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Michael Hamlin and Vance Hamlin officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery in DeKalb County.

Calling is Friday, February 10, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Calling will also be one hour prior to the services on Saturday.

Preferred memorials are to the Alzheimer's Association.
