Max A. Smith, 86, of Kendallville, Indiana, died Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at The Laurels of DeKalb in Butler. He had been a resident there for about two years.

He was born February 24, 1939, in LaOtto, Indiana, to George and Lois (Christlieb) Smith.

Upon his graduation from Northside High School in Fort Wayne in 1956, Max enlisted in the US Navy, where he served four years.

On August 12, 1962, he married Doris Strasburg in Fort Wayne. Doris passed away on October 24, 2012.

He lived in the Kendallville area for 54 years. He was a machinist at Flint and Walling for many years until his retirement.

Max is survived by two sons, Max A. Smith, Jr. and Curtis E. Smith, both in Garrett, two grandchildren; a brother, Terry Smith of Kansas; and several nieces and nephews.

Max was also preceded in death by his sister, Connie Jackson and his brother, Lynn Smith.

A graveside service will be Monday, April 28, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Kendallville.
