Obituary

Max Merrill Miller, 84, of Rome City, passed away peacefully in his home Tuesday evening, March 17, 2016, surrounded by family members.

Max spent his formative years growing up in Portland, before moving to Rome City where he graduated in 1949. Max served his country in the early 1950's by joining the United States Air Force Active Reserves attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Max was born on June 13, 1931 in Fort Wayne to Max and Harriet Cecil (May) Miller. He married Lois Conner on October 24, 1953, in Churubusco, and the two were happily married for over 62 years.

Mr. Miller was a former patrol officer and Chief of Police for the Churubusco Police Departments. He also served nearly 20 years as a Volunteer Fireman in Churubusco. Max also worked security at Dana in Churubusco.

He enjoyed Indiana Basketball, living at the lake, a good conversation or conservative debate, and he especially loved his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Max is survived by his wife Lois, three sons, Max Duane (Shelly) Miller of Rome City, Mark (Jazeela) Miller of Rome City, and Kenneth (Elaine) Miller of Fort Wayne. In addition, he is survived by three granddaughters, Shylla, Alissa and Chelsea Miller.

Calling will be Sunday, March 20, 2016 from 3 to 6 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville.

Private family service will be held on Monday, March 21, 2016 with Chaplain Britney Sloffer of Visiting Nurse officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery, Rome City with honor guard services being provided by active duty members of the U.S. Air Force.

Preferred memorials are Visiting Nurse and Hospice, 5901 Homestead Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46814.
