Max A. Barker, 85, of Kendallville died Friday, March 31, 2017, in Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville.
He was born May 3, 1931, in Noble County to Carl and Edith (Lasho) Barker.
He was a graduate of Kendallville High School. On September 8, 1951, he married Josephine Goodwin at the South Milford Methodist Church.
Max was a dairy farmer for 50 years and drove bus for 11 years.
He was a member of the Wayne Center United Methodist Church and was a past member of the Cree Lake Conservation Club, Noble County Soil and Water Conservation District, Noble County Fair Board, and the Draft Horse Club.
Max enjoyed hunting, fishing, and visiting with family, friends, and neighbors. He never met a stranger. He looked forward to and never missed the Noble County Fair. But, most of all, he loved his grandchildren and looked forward to their visits whether from Indiana or Connecticut.
Max is survived by his wife of 65 years, Josephine; three daughters, Pam (Frank) Rodriguez of New Fairfield, Connecticut, Jeanne (Dan) Hosted of Kendallville, and Nanette Meyer of Kendallville; three sons, Hal (Cheryl) Barker of Kendallville, David Barker of Kendallville, and Tim (Lori) Barker of Hamilton; 12 grandchildren, Jamie (Mike) Riedeman of Indianapolis, Joe (Kathy) Barker of Kendallville, Justin (Jacqueline) Rodriguez of Milford, Connecticut, Melanie (Don) Smith of Newtown, Connecticut, Julie Rodriguez of Stamford, Connecticut, Stacy (Charlie) Schenkel of Kendallville, Tiffany Hosted of Kendallville, Ryan Hosted of Kendallville, Kyle (Carlee) Hosted of Big Long Lake, Sam Meyer of Kendallville, Hailey Meyer of Kendallville, and Jack Meyer of Kendallville; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Amy Barker of Kendallville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Hugh Barker; son-in-law, Kurt Meyer; and brother, Dean Barker.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Rev. Ken Walker and Rev. Gene Flickinger officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
Honorary pallbearers will be his 12 grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Hal Barker, David Barker, Tim Barker, Frank Rodriguez, Dan Hosted, and Hal Schuman.
Calling is Tuesday, April 4, 2017, from 2 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour before the service on Wednesday.
Preferred memorials are to the Wayne Center United Methodist Church.
