Obituary

Mary Ellen Trowbridge, 78, of Ligonier died Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at 10:40 a.m. in her residence.

She was a lifetime area resident and a homemaker.

Mrs. Trowbridge was a member of the West Noble American Legion Post 243 Auxiliary.

Mary was an amazing mother, grandma, and great-grandma who loved nothing more than spending time with her family, her dog, Lakota, the many friends who loved her, and her family from the American Legion.

She was the best cook ever. She loved spending hours in the kitchen baking cookies and pies. She enjoyed sitting with her husband on the porch, planting flowers, and doing yard work.

She was born March 6, 1938, in Fairfield Township, DeKalb County to Wallace W. and Cleo Pauline (Blough) Johnston.

On April 21, 1956, in Angola she married Robert Lee Trowbridge. He survives in Ligonier.

Also surviving are two daughters, Bobbie (Randy) Chidister of South Bend and Linda (Jim) Sedlacek of Elkhart; two sons, Dale Trowbridge of Ligonier and Joseph (Judy) Trowbridge of Albion; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Dorothy Wright of Missouri, Patty (Walter "Butch") Trowbridge of Kendallville, and Mirta Budd of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert L. Trowbridge, Jr.; and a sister, Wilma Rowe.

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 9, 2016, at 10 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State, Kendallville. Burial will be in Sweet Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Shaun Trowbridge, Casey Slone, Chris Trowbridge, Shaw Smith, Gage Paulus, Jason Smith, and Kevin Levens.

Calling is Friday, July 8, 2016, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
