Mary Jane Handshoe, 85, of Wawaka died Thursday, March 17, 2011, at 5:15 p.m. in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Handshoe was a lifetime area resident. She worked at Lyle Electric for a year. She then worked at Essex Wire in Ligonier and retired from there after 22 years.
She enjoyed fishing, gardening, and canning.
She was born November 7, 1925, in Auburn to George and Mary (Beaty) Carper. She married Harold L. Bruce, and he preceded her in death in 1975. She then married Dale Handshoe on October 28, 1977, in Sturgis, Michigan. He survives in Wawaka.
Also surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, George E. and Joni L. Bruce of Kendallville and Harold L. Bruce of Wolcottville; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and two sisters, Shirley Botts of Fort Wayne and Bonnie Hopkins of St. Joe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dorothy Harker, and five brothers, George Carper, Jr., Forrest Carper, Floyd Carper, Leo Carper, and Donnie Carper.
Graveside services will be Monday, March 21, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Orange Cemetery, Rome City, with prayers being said by Vaughn Handshoe.
Calling is Sunday, March 20, 2011, from 2 to 5 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville.
