Mark E. Sargent, 60, of Kendallville died Friday, September 11, 2009, in the University of Chicago Hospital, Chicago, Illinois.

Mr. Sargent graduated from Bishop Noll Institute in 1967. He was a Kendallville resident for 35 years He worked for Firestone, then as a mechanic for Max Platt Ford Lincoln Mercury in Kendallville for 33 years.

He enjoyed a variety of hobbies, such as drag racing, scuba diving, wood-working and golf. He was mechanically inclined and was always willing to help friends and family with home and car repairs.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville. He had served with the Indiana Army National Guard.

He was born January 30, 1949, in Ogallala, Nebraska, to Charley and Frieda (Morichetti) Sargent.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherri (Sargent) and Dave Jones of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Jennifer Sargent-Muhleisen and Michael Muhleisen of Kendallville; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven Sargent and Melody Cravens-Sargent of Bloomington, Illinois; his first wife and mother of his children, Dianne Sargent of Kendallville; his second wife, Judy (Garringer) Sargent of Kendallville; a stepdaughter, Tricia Garringer of Kendallville; six grandchildren, Cheyanne Jones, Samantha Jones, Nathaniel Jones, Brenton Sargent, Rylan Sargent and Elizabeth Muhleisen; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda Sargent-Parks and Gary Parks of Dyer; a brother, Michael Sargent of Hammond; and 11 nieces and nephews, Michelle Parks, Melanie Parks, Ame Stanley, Robin Stanley, Jessica Stanley, Ben Stanley, Natalie Kuplic, Sarah Kuplic, Amanda Verash, Courtney Verash, and Kyle Verash.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Christopher Sargent.

Graveside services will be Thursday, September 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. Central time at the Elmwood Cemetery, 1413 169th Street, Hammond.

Calling will be Wednesday, September 16, 2009, from noon to 2 p.m. and 4 to 6:30 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville. A funeral service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Honor guard services will be conducted by Francis Vinyard Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2749, Kendallville.

In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials are to the American Red Cross Blood Bank, 1212 East California Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 46825.
