Calling: Monday, May 19, 2014 - 10 a.m. to noon in the funeral home ************************************************************************************* Marjorie Mae Matthews, 95, of Kendallville peacefully passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. in her home.
She had lived in this area since 1940, coming from St. Louis, Missouri.
Mrs. Matthews was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and walking.
She and her husband traveled with The Marcus Shows world tour in the late 1930's. Marjorie was a dancer and costume designer, and Cecil was an acrobat with the Belford Boys before settling in Kendallville and raising a family.
She was born January 4, 1919, in St. Louis to Anthony Lester and Margaret (McFadden) Brod.
On October 1, 1935, in Marion, Ohio, she married Cecil Arthur Matthews. He preceded her in death on June 14, 1991.
Surviving are two sons, William (Jane) Matthews of Largo, Florida, and Robert (Carol) Matthews of Kendallville; three grandsons, Peter (Sasikan) Matthews, Ryan (Nita) Matthews, and Michael (Sarah) Matthews; three step granddaughters, Christena Perez, Michelle (William) Kranz, and Angela (David) Justice; five great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joan (Ron) Howard of Kimberly City, Missouri.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, William Brod.
Funeral services will be at noon on Monday, May 19, 2014, in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Karl Frincke of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
Calling is Monday, May 19, 2014, from 10 a.m. to noon in the funeral home.
