Marilyn Rose Slater, 83 of Kendallville died Friday, April 7, 2017, in her residence.
She was born January 26, 1934, in Kendallville to William and Cecile (Bloomfield) O'Dell.
On June 7, 1952, in Kendallville she married Jack W. Slater.
Mrs. Slater was co-owner of Slater Concrete Products in Kendallville along with her son, Jeff. The company was founded in 1923, by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lynn and Jessie Slater. Marilyn and her husband, Jack ran the business until his death.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville.
Marilyn enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, travelling, and watching "Wheel of Fortune". As an avid animal lover, she supported the Humane Society of Noble County. But, her favorite thing to do was working with the public as office manager at Slater's Concrete Products. Marilyn will be remembered for showing empathy and reaching out to anyone needing help.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Ray Clark of Kendallville; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Dee Slater of Kendallville; a daughter-in-law, Julie Frymier of Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Joe (Kimberly) Schroeder, Laura Krist, Melissa Krist, Scott (Nicole) Krist, Erin (Bryan) Rudnick, Austin (Holly) Slater, and Jacob Slater; and four great-grandchildren, Jessica Schroeder, Samantha Schroeder, Jack Slater, and Jonah Slater.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack W. Slater on December 4, 1995; a son, Jonah Slater on September 4, 1998; a daughter, Jennifer Krist on February 18, 2008; a grandson, Michael Schroeder on December 8, 2014; three sisters, Donnabelle Brickley, Caroline Harmeyer, and Beverly Beaty; and two brothers, Charles O'Dell and William O'Dell.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at 1 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Rev. Dr. Robert Shriner of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ray Clark, Joe Schroeder, Austin Slater, Jacob Slater, Bryan Rudnick, and Terry Wagner.
Calling is Tuesday, April 11, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
