Margaret Ann Herron, 78, of Ligonier, Indiana, and formerly of Avilla died Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Avalon Village in Ligonier.

She was born February 27, 1944, in Coldwater, Michigan, to Louis L. and Bertha C. (Croxton) Ditton.

On April 19, 1963, in Fort Wayne she married Charles F. "Charlie" Herron. He preceded her in death on April 23, 2010.

Mrs. Herron was a homemaker and had worked for several years as a CNA at McCray Memorial Hospital in Kendallville working in the OB Department, a job she dearly loved.

Margaret enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and doing cross-stitch. She dearly loved her grandchildren.

Surviving are a daughter, Kathleen (Steve) Perkins of Ashley; a son, Kenneth L. Herron of Kendallville; seven grandchildren, Melina Miller, Michael Herron, Jonathan Perkins, Joshua Perkins, Jamie Mosley, Lori Perkins, and Bryce Perkins; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Kubiac of Wickenburg, Arizona, and Almeda Bechthold of Lodi, California; and two brothers, George Ditton of Fort Wayne and Dan Ditton of Longmont, Colorado.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Lee Herron; and a brother, John Ditton.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 30, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Brett Frick officiating.

Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery in DeKalb County.

Honorary pallbearers are Brantlee Perkins, and Levi Shipe. Active pallbearers are Steve Perkins, Jake Mosley, Bryce Perkins, Shaugn Shultz, Mason Perkins, and Brayden Mosley.

Visitation is Thursday, September 29, 2022, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Margaret's funeral service on Friday will also live stream on the Young Family Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at 11 a.m. for those unable to attend.
