Margaret Handshoe, 81, of Rome City, Indiana, died Thursday, November 27, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family following a brief illness.
She was born December 20, 1943, in Prestonsburg, Floyd County, Kentucky, to Bill and Mary (Howell) Dawson.
On January 12, 1964, in Sturgis, Michigan, she married Hershel Handshoe. He preceded her in death on August 25, 2024.
A dedicated homemaker, Margaret poured her heart into caring for her family and creating a warm and welcoming home. She loved all animals and took great joy in feeding the birds each morning and evening. She also enjoyed listening to Irish singer Daniel O'Donnell, whose music brought her comfort and joy. Above all, Margaret dearly loved her family, who were the center of her life.
Surviving are two sons, Hershel Edward (Alicia) Handshoe of Stroh and David Lee (Wini) Handshoe of Arizona; four grandchildren, Keisha (Derrik) Boyer of Rome City, Sheila (Mike Willivise) Campbell of Rome City, Matt (Megan) Handshoe of Kendallville, and Tabitha (Chris) Pratt of Portsmouth, Ohio; ten great-grandchildren; her first great-great-grandchild due in February; three sisters, Willa Mae Wilson of Flint, Michigan, Glenna Faye Dawson of Flint, Michigan, and Mariea Wilson of Tennessee; and two brothers, Freddie (Toni) Dawson of Michigan and Chester Ray Dawson of Ohio.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marlana Handshoe; and three brothers, Billy Gene Dawson, James Eddie George, and Ernie "Pooch" George.
Visitation will be Monday, December 1, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Michael Little officiating.
Burial will follow at Wright Cemetery near Stroh.
Pallbearers are Tison Smead, Makyia Moreno, Derrik Boyer, Mike Willivize, Broc Magner, Hunter Mitchell, Braylon Vandoll, and Coen Downing.
