Obituary

Lurah (Putt) DeVoe Phillips, 100, of East Lansing, Michigan, and formerly of Kendallville died Monday, April 17, 2017, at Burcham Hills Assisted Living in East Lansing, Michigan.

She was born December 17, 1916, in Fairfield Township, DeKalb County, Indiana, to Frank and Maude (Brugh) Putt.

She graduated from Ashley High School in 1934.

Lurah married Doyle T. DeVoe of Kendallville on December 4, 1938. He preceded her in death on June 22, 1984. They had two sons, Ronald (Peggy) DeVoe of Big Bear City, California, and Phillip (Sandra) DeVoe of Melbourne, Florida, and one daughter, Kathleen DeVoe Crooks of Okemos, Michigan. Also surviving are four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Phillips was a homemaker and active in the First Presbyterian Church in Kendallville. She also was a member of the Friends of the Library in Kendallville and in Auburn. She enjoyed working on family genealogy for many years and was a member of the National Society of DAR.

Later in life, Lurah married Wiley J. Phillips of Auburn. He preceded her in death on November 16, 2002. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Dwight Putt and Allen Putt and two sisters, Naomi (Putt) Rensch and Pauline (Putt) King.

Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville. A private graveside service will be held.
