Lowell H. Kimpel, 97, of Angola died Tuesday, November 27, 2012, in Life Care Center of LaGrange.
He had lived in Angola for 25 years, coming from Pleasant Lake.
Mr. Kimpel served in the Civilian Conservation Corp Camp in Idaho in the 1930's.
He had worked at Newnam Foundry in Kendallville for 18 years, and retired from Weatherhead in Angola.
Lowell greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was born August 10, 1915, in Defiance County, Ohio, to Oscar and Vera Myrtle (Frey) Kimpel. On October 23, 1937, in Garrett he married Kathleen J. "Kathy" Robbins. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2002.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Carl Root of Kendallville, Deborah and James Kaough of Wolcottville, and Carolyn and Ricky Moore of Kendallville; four sons and three daughters-in-law, James Kimpel of LaGrange, John and Wendy Kimpel of Warsaw, David and Diane Kimpel of LaGrange, and Larry and Rosita Kimpel of Orlando, Florida; a daughter-in-law, Mary Kimpel of LaGrange; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Kimpel; a son, Robert Kimpel; a brother, LaVon Kimpel; and a daughter-in-law, Judy Kimpel.
Funeral services will be Friday, November 30, 2012, at 10 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Mervin Miller officiating. Burial will be in the South Milford Cemetery.
Calling is Thursday, November 29, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to the South Milford Church of Christ Joy Circle or the donor's choice.
