Obituary

Lois M. Miller, 77, of Rome City died Sunday, December 21, 2008, at 2:28 a.m. in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Miller had worked as a nurses' aide for 37 years at McCray Memorial Hospital in Kendallville. She had resided on Sylvan Lake since 1993, after living in Kendallville for 40 years.

She was a member of Lake Bethel Mennonite Church. She was past president of the Kendallville Garden Club, past president of the Southside Elementary PTO when her children attended school there, was a leader of the Elmwood Mennonite Church Girl's Club which is now Harvest Community Church in Kendallville, and the women's sewing group at Lake Bethel Mennonite Church. She enjoyed her grandchildren and attending all of their activities. Her hobbies were cooking, gardening, birdwatching, and travelling.

She was born September 12, 1931, in Wakarusa, Elkhart County, Indiana, to Raymond T. and Elva B. (Martin) Hartman. On November 23, 1950, in Elkhart she married Lewis B. Miller of Goshen.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Jolene K. and J. David Pettigrew of Fort Wayne; a son and daughter-in-law, Philip L. and Jennifer Miller of Moline, Illinois; five grandchildren, Nathaniel Pettigrew and his girlfriend, Corinne Allen, Natalie Pettigrew, Shaley Pettigrew and her fiance, Zachary Roberson, Veronica Miller and her boyfriend, Kevin Powell, and Ian Miller; and a brother and sister-in-law, Walt and June Hartman of Elkhart.

She was preceded in death by her husband on May 26, 2003, and three infant children.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 27, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Shore Mennonite Church, 7235 W US 20, Shipshewana, with calling one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

Calling will be Friday, December 26, 2008, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.
