Linnea Adela DePew
Linnea Adela DePew, 63, of Kendallville died at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at the I.U. Medical Center, Indianapolis.
She had lived in the area since 1958, a native of Nebraska. She graduated from Kendallville High School as salutatorian in 1964.
Mrs. DePew was a 20-year survivor of a liver transplant. Along with her husband, she owned and operated their dairy farm, Knob-Hil-Vue. She was also a homemaker and Avon Representative. For the past 12 years, Mrs. DePew worked for A&H Specialties in Kendallville.
Linnea was very active in her four daughter's education and was supportive of all their extracurricular activities, including but not limited to: East Noble High School Theatre, East Noble Band Boosters, East Noble Show Choirs, Business Professional of America, gymnastics, FFA and science competitions.
In 2009, she was named the Grand Marshal of Noble County Community Fair Parade recognizing her involvement in 4-H, Home Extension and the community. She and her husband were instrumental in the start of the 4-H Dairy Steer Project. Mrs. DePew continued her support of the project by being secretary. She was also involved and in the building of the Beef/Dairy Steer Barn at the fairgrounds. In addition, she consistently served in the youth organization's Dairy Project for more than 30 years.
Mrs. DePew helped start the Noble County Preview Dairy Steer Show 12 years ago and has served as secretary/treasurer since the beginning. She served in all of the offices of the Noble County Home Extension Club and was a member of the Fun 'N' Fancy Homemakers Club. She was a treasurer of Gaslight Playhouse, Inc. She also loyally worked the elections for the Republican Party for more than 30 years.
She was born November 10, 1946, in Hastings, Neb., to Jacob and Edna (Maaske) Heathers. On January 1, 1965, she married Robert Earl DePew in Corunna.
Surviving are: four daughters and two sons-in-law, Lee Ann DePew of Kendallville, Robin and Steve Fuhrman of Avilla, Lori Bowman of Peoria, Ill., and Renee and Sid Carty, Jr. of Indianapolis; 11 grandchildren, Heidi and Wes Spencer, Nick Fuhrman, Heather Wade, Philip Bowman, Elizabeth Bowman, Faith Bowman, Jakeb Bowman, Grace Bowman, Derek Carty, Arlan Carty and Morgan Carty; and her mother, Edna (Gram) Heathers of Kendallville.
Preceding her in death are her father on December 31, 1983, and her husband on March 26, 1997.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2010, her father's birth date, in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 S. State St., Kendallville, with the Rev. Doug Keenan officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
Calling is from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 2010, and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to the 4-H Dairy Steer Leadership Award, Gaslight Playhouse, Inc. or Indiana Organ Procurement Organization.
