Linda L. Becker McWhinney, 73, of Kendallville died Wednesday, February 17, 2016, in Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville.
She was a lifetime area resident, having lived at Pretty Lake in LaGrange County from 1983 to 2006, before moving to Kendallville.
Mrs. McWhinney loved working at McCray Memorial Hospital in Kendallville where she ran the switchboard, worked in the office, and was also the first Noble County EMS Dispatcher.
Linda dearly loved her family, her cats, and reading. She enjoyed flower gardening, and was known as the "master gardener" in her neighborhood. Linda always wanted to make a difference in the world and was passionate about those in need. She treasured her time as a daycare volunteer.
She was born August 13, 1942, in Noble County to Ralph C. and Miriam A. (Warble) Becker.
On October 22, 1983, in Kendallville she married Fred J. McWhinney. He survives in Kendallville.
Also surviving are a daughter, Lori (Roy) Ernsberger of Corunna; a stepdaughter, Cheryl (Dave) Brereton of Peoria, Arizona; a stepson, Fred J. (Marilyn) McWhinney, III of LaOtto; two granddaughters, Mandy (Anthony Shannon) Prater of Austin, Texas and Sarah (Mark) Masloob of Fort Wayne; five step-grandchildren, Melissa (Joe) Sroda of Evans, Georgia, Kathleen (Luke) Krouse of Fort Wayne, Jennifer (Michael) Montoya of Rome City, Jamie (Stephen) McKenzie of Kendallville, and Kim (Dan) Consentino of Goshen; three great-grandchildren, Melody Masloob, Evelyn Masloob, and Elizabeth Masloob; nine step-great-grandchildren, Kyle McKenzie, Kaitlyn McKenzie, Charis Consentino, Kiana Montoya, Autumn Montoya, Addison Krouse, Kyla Krouse, Ella Krouse, and Meaghan Sroda; three sisters, Janis (Jim) Tuttle of Waterloo, Rozanne Becker of Fort Wayne, and Victoria Becker of Kendallville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Katherine Mullen, Miriam Louise Coil, Marjorie Rider, and Nancy Simon; and two brothers, Ralph Becker and Richard Becker.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 20, 2016, at 3:30 p.m. in the South Milford Church of Christ, 8030 E 600 S, Wolcottville with Pastor Brian Walter officiating.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the church.
Preferred memorials are to the Noble County Humane Society or to the Friendship Food Pantry both in Kendallville.
