Obituary

Leon L. Hill, 92, of Wolcottville died Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at 7:10 a.m. in Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville. He had been in the hospital since Saturday evening.

Mr. Hill, a lifetime area resident, graduated from Wolcottville High School in 1934 where he was class president and valedictorian. He retired in 1975 from Kirsch Drapery Hardware in Sturgis, Michigan, working 36 ½ years in quality control. He and his wife operated Hill's Horseradish for 35 years in Wolcottville. He was a member of U.A.W. #797, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and time spent at their former summer home on Wible Lake near Kendallville.

He was born May 15, 1916, in Kendallville to Milo and Lilla (Pratt) Hill. On September 8, 1940, in Michigan he married Evelyn Ebert. She survives in Wolcottville.

Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Wayne Targgart of Kendallville and Carol and Jon Burkhead of Wolcottville; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Joy Hill of Wolcottville; four grandchildren, Doug Targgart, Brad Targgart, Kent Hill, and Kyle Hill; and three great grandchildren, Taylor Targgart, Madison Targgart and Meredith Targgart.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 13, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville, with Rev. Carldean Merrifield officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Wolcottville.

Calling will be Thursday, June 12, 2008, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville.

Preferred memorials are to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
