Obituary

Leon H. Godsey, 81, of Stroh died Sunday, January 10, 2021, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.

He was born March 25, 1939, in Hardburly, Kentucky, to Jonah Curtis and Ruth (Terry) Godsey.

He honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960.

On June 5, 1959, he married Sophronia Ritchie.

Mr. Godsey retired from Everage Motor Sales in Stroh where he was a car detailer.

Leon enjoyed watching NASCAR, and he loved taking care of his dogs, Hojo and Mojo.

Surviving are his wife, Sophronia Godsey of Stroh; two daughters, Shirley Wallace of LaGrange and Brenda (Mark) Elion of Wolcottville; three sons, Austin (Retha) Godsey of Hudson, Rick (Robin) Godsey of Ashley, and Leon C. Godsey of Hudson; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lois Fugate of Greenfield, Shirley (Frank) Sturdivant of Rome City, and Juanita Stacey of Wolcottville; and seven brothers, Ronald (Nettie) Godsey of Hardburly, Kentucky, Luther (Clara) Godsey of Kendallville, Marcus (Faye) Godsey of Rome City, Calvin (Debbie) Godsey of Rome City, Otis (Shelvia) Godsey of Kendallville, Kenneth (Beverly) Godsey of Greenfield, and Charles "Bogie" Godsey of Greenfield.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Keith Wallace; and three brothers, Alvin Godsey, George Godsey, and I.B . Godsey.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Christian Baptist Church, 2838 East US 6, Kendallville with Pastor Larry Anglemyer, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Brushy Chapel Cemetery in LaGrange County.

Pallbearers are Blake Sturdivant, A.J. Godsey, Mark Elion, Dylan Williams, Evan Walker, and Merle Yoder.

Honor guard services will be provided by the Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation is Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church.

Per the Governor and the family, due to health issues face masks are required to be worn.

Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville is assisting the family with arrangements.
