Obituary

Larry Ralph Schieber, 77, of Pleasant Lake, Indiana died unexpectedly Monday, December 9, 2024, at his residence.

He was born October 16, 1947, in Angola to Ralph and Pauline (Petre) Schieber.

Larry had attended Flint School, Prairie Heights, and Angola High School.

He honorably served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1966 until 1972. In 1968, he was stationed in the Marble Mountains, South of Da Nang City in Vietnam. He received numerous medals, with the highest being the Purple Heart.

On August 14, 1976, in Orland, he married Cheryl Johnson. She survives in Pleasant Lake.

Larry had worked at McIntosh, last known as Tower Automotive, in Kendallville for 31 years before retirement.  While at McIntosh/Tower, he was the President and Vice President of the UAW #2345.

He was also a member of the Angola American Legion Post 31.

He enjoyed watching all football, racing and Westerns. He was an avid Democrat. He dearly loved his grandchildren and will be fondly remembered for making the best ham and his sweet tooth, especially his deep love for pies.

Also surviving are a daughter, Chrishawna (Josh Venderley) Schieber of Angola; three sons, Timothy Schieber of Pleasant Lake, Douglas Schieber of California, and JP Downs of New Hampshire; eight grandchildren, Nicolas Schieber, Skyler Schieber, Xzavier Schieber, Serenity Schieber, Madison Johnson, Alliya Loftus, Jazzlynn Venderley, and Tenor Venderley; and a sister, Lillie (Gene) Smith of Mishawaka.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and eight brothers and sisters, Josephine Ortan, Karl Schieber, Joan Dickerson, Dean Schieber, Wendell Schieber, Jack Schieber, Judy DeLong, and Enos Schieber.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Hudson/Ashley Chapel, 612 North Main Street, Hudson with Pastor Jason Booher officiating.

Private family burial will be on Monday.

Visitation will also be on Saturday, December 14, 2024, beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to the family.
