Larry L. Donat, 67, of Rome City died Sunday, December 26, 2010, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Mr. Donat was a lifetime area resident. He was a partner in C.M. Donat & Sons Pepsi Cola Distributors in Rome City. He recently worked for Eshelman Excavating in Kendallville.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Vietnam. He was a member of American Legion Post 381, Rome City, and a charter member of the Moose Lodge in LaGrange. He served on the East Noble School Board from 1986 to 1990 and the Rome City Baseball Board for several years. He was a member of the Rome City United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Rome City Chamber of Commerce, and was previously named Citizen of the Year.
Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and car shows. He dearly loved his grandsons.
He was born October 30, 1943, in Kendallville to C.M. and Anna Gertrude (Thomas) Donat. On June 19, 1964, he married Sandra Schwab.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra Donat of Rome City; a daughter and son-in-law, Mindie and Mike Isaacs of Wolcottville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Trent and Leah Donat of St. Louis, Missouri, and Brent and Jennifer Donat of Kendallville; five grandsons, Dillon Donat, Darren Donat, Britain Isaacs, Nolan Isaacs, and Colton Isaacs; and a sister, Doris Bailey of Muncie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers, Edward Donat, C.M. Donat, Jr., Herbert Donat, and Richard Donat.
Funeral services will be Thursday, December 30, 2010, at 10 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville, with Rev. Dr. Dan Barker officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery, Rome City. Honor guard services will be provided by American Legion Post 381, VFW Post 2749, and active duty members of the U.S. Army.
Calling is Wednesday, December 29, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to American Legion Post 381, Rome City Fire Department, or to the donor's choice.
