Larry Maynard Bortner, 83, of Kendallville, Indiana, died Friday, November 8, 2024, at his residence.

He was born December 23, 1940, in Kendallville, Indiana, to Maynard E. and Emma Jane (Becker) Bortner.

On July 24, 1985, in the Philippines he married Melvin D. Togonon.

Mr. Bortner was a farmer and a truck driver. He drove for No-Sag in Kendallville. Later he retired from JAT in Fort Wayne.

Larry loved attending auctions and old vintage cars. He enjoyed camping, traveling, sightseeing, and going on road trips. In his younger years, he was active in 4-H and enjoyed deer hunting. He was a collector of die-cast cars.

Surviving are his wife, Melvin Bortner of Kendallville; three daughters, Cindy Everage of Wawaka, April Smolek of Wawaka, and Annakarina (Ross) Freeman of Avilla; two sons, Robert (Judy) Bortner of Kendallville and Jose Harley (Holly) Bortner of Albion; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edward Bortner and Ronnie Bortner.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 15, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Percy Young with Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Kendallville officiating.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Burial will follow at Sweet Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Bob Bortner, Harley Bortner, Ross Freeman, Ryan Everage, Weston Knafel, Easton Knafel, Eric Bortner, and Mike Bortner.

Preferred memorials are to the Humane Society of Noble County.

A luncheon will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2290 IN-9, Albion, IN 46701, following the burial.
