Kim L. Burkley, 57, of Kendallville died Friday, August 24, 2012, at 8:42 a.m. in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.

He was a self-employed welder and mechanic. He had previously worked at Flint & Walling and Kammerer Welding, both in Kendallville.

Kim was a dragster enthusiast, building his cars from the ground up. He was a member of National Dragster. He raced his cars at the Bunker Hill Dragstrip.

He was born December 27, 1954, in Kendallville to Ralph E. and Julia A. (Garrison) Burkley.

Surviving are his father, Ralph E. Burkley of Kendallville; a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce K. and James Mitchell, Jr. of Kendallville; a niece and her husband, Dawn M. and Jon Crandall of Fort Wayne; two nephews, Clint T. Renkenberger and his companion, Amy Targgart of Kendallville and Matthew Renkenberger and his companion, Destynie Bellinger of Kendallville; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother on January 8, 2012.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 27, 2012, at 3 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Chris Mosley of Grace Christian Church, Kendallville officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

Pallbearers will be James Mitchell, Jr., Dawn Crandall, Jon Crandall, Clint Renkenberger, Amy Targgart, Matt Renkenberger, and Destynie Bellinger.

Calling is Monday, August 27, 2012, from noon to 3 p.m. in the funeral home.
