Local businessman, Kermit E. Fisher, 84, of Avilla died Sunday, September 02, 2012 at 9:39 a.m. in Provena Sacred heart Home, Avilla.
Kermit was a lifetime Avilla resident. He graduated from Avilla High School in 1947.
He honorably served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air force during the Korean War.
Kermit worked with this father in construction and then Haegerman Construction building the Fort Wayne Coliseum. He later owned and operated Fisher Brothers Market with his brother J.C. Fisher for over 30 years in Avilla. He then became an auctioneer and real estate agent with Kruse Auction Company.
Kermit served on Board of Directors of Community State Bank in Avilla. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Avilla, the Avilla American Legion Post 240, Avilla Masonic Lodge, and the Kendallville Eastern Star.
He enjoyed having coffee at Richards Restaurant with his buddies in Kendallville.
He was born April 30, 1928, in Avilla to Frank and Flossie (Gregory) Fisher. On June 28, 1958, in Fort Wayne he married Rosemary J. Spohr.
Surviving are his wife Rosemary J. Fisher of Avilla; a son, Richard Fisher of Avilla; a daughter Kathleen Reed of Fort Wayne two granddaughters; Kylee Reed and Kelsey Reed and a sister and brother-in-law, Hazel and Frank Keith of Indianapolis; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Fisher; two sisters, Hilda Brown and Cleta Gibbons; and three brothers, Donald Fisher, Dalton Fisher and J.C. Fisher.
Calling will be Friday, September 7, 2012, from noon to 2pm at Calvary United Methodist Church, Avilla, with the funeral service at 2p.m. The Rev. Dr. Leonard King will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
Honor guard services will be provided by American Legion Post 240 and active duty members of the U.S. military.
Preferred memorials are to the Humane Society of Noble County, 1305 South Sherman Street Kendallville, IN 46755, Alzheimer's Unit in Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla, or Calvary United Methodist Church in Avilla.
