Kenneth D. Smith, 75, of Kendallville died Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at 7:25 a.m. in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Smith began working for Bell Telephone in 1955 in Kendallville. He retired from Bell South, which is now At&T. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was born April 22, 1933, in Kendallville to Warren Nelson and Viola Mae (Hammel) Smith.

Surviving are two daughters, Diana Smith of Wolcottville and Cynthia Moore of Kendallville; three sons and three daughters-in-law, Kelvin "Kelly" and Tammy Smith of Kendallville, Monty and Wendy Smith of New Mexico, and Timothy and Mary Smith of Fort Wayne; two stepdaughters, Susan Cockerham and Breanna Dukes, both of Mississippi; 12 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Gene Lash of Kendallville; and a brother and his companion, Jimmy Smith and Willa Goodman of Auburn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marjorie (Reecer) Smith Wallace; two sisters, Evelyn Gibson and Janice Thacker; a brother, Max Smith; and a granddaughter.

Private funeral services will be held with Pastor Mike Albaugh officiating. Military services will be conducted by VFW Post 2749, Kendallville.

Calling will be Friday, January 2, 2009, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville. Preferred memorials are to the donor's choice.
