Obituary

Kathy Sue Fought, 58, of Wolcottville died Saturday, March 18, 2017, at 7:03 a.m. in Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born July 3, 1958, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, to Bernard and Gertrude (Moore) Smith.

On August 25, 1979, in Topeka she married Steven D. Fought. He preceded her in death on November 21, 2016.

She has lived in this area since 1978, coming from Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.

Mrs. Fought managed the Subway in Rome City for 13 years. She then worked at Casey's in Syracuse for 1 ½ years, and retired as manager of the Subway in Kendallville in May, 2016.

Kathy enjoyed working with the public and never met a stranger. She and her husband lived on Steinbarger Lake for many years, thoroughly enjoying the lake life. Trips to Kentucky, camping, and crocheting were among her favorite interests. But, most of all, she loved spending time with her grandkids.

Surviving are two daughters, Jae Lynne Fought of Kendallville and Ashley Fought of Wolcottville; three stepdaughters, Teresa (Don) Smith of Wolcottville, Tonya (Mike) Holcomb of Kimmell, and Tracy (Stan) Wiley of Ligonier; four grandchildren, Tanner Fought, Turner Patrick, Hannah Musser, and Noah Musser; six step-grandchildren, Stephanie Eckler, Rebecca Eckler, Shannon Eckler, Bobbie Sue Eckler, Natasha (Michael) Handshoe, and Steven Bussie; 12 step great-grandchildren; her father, Bernard Smith of Sebring, Florida; and two brothers, Tom (Ron Kruman) Smith of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, and Douglas (Kim) Smith of San Antonio, Texas.

She was also preceded in death by her mother.

There will be no services or calling.

Burial will be in Orange Cemetery, Rome City at a later date.

Preferred memorials are to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital, 1701 Senate Boulevard, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46202.

Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville is assisting the family with arrangements.
