Obituary

Karen Ann Smith, 68, of Kendallville died Monday, July 10, 2017, at 5:45 a.m. in her residence.

She was born February 12, 1949, in Three Rivers, Michigan, to Elvin and Jean (Mohney) Arver. Her father preceded her in death and her mother survives in Angola.

On September 12, 1977, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, she married Terry L. Smith. He survives in Kendallville.

She had lived in Indiana since 1989, coming from El Paso, Texas, and resided in Kendallville since August, 2016.

Mrs. Smith was a bus driver for the Northeast Indiana Special Education Co-op.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society.

Karen enjoyed traveling, camping, knitting, painting, and making crafts. She dearly loved being with her grandchildren.

Surviving are a daughter, Terri L. (Travis) Boyd of Angola; two sons, Michael C. (Candice) Spitler of Chesterfield, Michigan, and Kenneth (Bobbie) Smith of Wolcottville; a stepdaughter, Deanna (Leo) Duran of Rohnert Park, California; eight grandchildren; six step grandchildren; three sisters, Donna Navar of El Paso, Texas, Dianne Arver of McComb, Mississippi, and Ellen Kittel of Edgewood, New Mexico; and a brother, Bill Arver of Portales, New Mexico.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Christina Smith; a son, Brian Smith; a stepson, Edward Smith; a sister, Marilyn Stroud; and two brothers, Bruce Arver and Bob Arver.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 14, 2017, at 6 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Jarrod McGuire of Calvary Chapel Fellowship in Stroh officiating. Burial will be at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas.

Calling is Friday, July 14, 2017, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to the American Heart Association or the Noble County Humane Shelter.
