Obituary

Julia A. (Judy) Hoot, 65, of Rome City died Sunday, January 18, 2009, in her residence at Jones Lake following a two month illness.

Mrs. Hoot retired after 30 years of working in the office at Sears in Glenbrook Mall. She was a member of Fellowship Bible Church, Kendallville.

Her glory was her family. She was affectionately known as Grandma at the Lake by her great grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing with her husband, and was one of the first women to participate in local bass fishing tournaments. She and her husband often took their bass boat to fish in Lake Erie, but she especially enjoyed going out in her pontoon on Jones Lake. She also liked to cut and arrange the flowers that her husband planted and weeded. She wrote poetry, and loved the Lord. But, her passion in life was to tell others about Jesus.

She was born May 10, 1943, in Garrett to Wilbur and Janet (Sauder) Swander. On November 15, 1959, in Garrett, she married Nick R. Hoot. He survives in Rome City.

Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Angela Brinkman of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Norm Brinkman of LaGrange, and Christina and Todd Walters of Auburn; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Melissa Hoot of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren, Nicole and Jeremy Meade, Heather and Jeremy Randol, Ryan Samuels, Adam Hoot, and Jackie Hoot; seven great grandchildren, Bryanna, Courtlan, Becca, Madison, Bryson, Dylan, and Jacob; a sister and brother-in-law, Carole and Jack Reynolds of Auburn; and a brother and sister-in-law, Kim and Joan Swander of LaOtto.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 23, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville, with Pastor Tom Dyson of Fellowship Bible Church officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery.
