Joseph James Reiter, 82, of Kendallville, Indiana, died Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

He was born November 25, 1943, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Richard L. and Marie M. (Rauch) Reiter.

He honorably served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era. He was proud of the fact that he served on the USS Midway and that he went on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

Joe retired as a computer technician.

Among his survivors are his companion of 32 years, Judi Smiley of Kendallville; and a brother and sister-in-law, Mel and Jody Reiter of Arkansas; and a sister-in-law, Betty "BJ" Reiter of Minnesota.

Per Joe's wishes, there will be no services.

Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville is assisting the family with arrangements.
