Joseph C. Jacobs, Sr., 76, of Topeka, Indiana, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at the home of his daughter, surrounded by his family.
He was born February 14, 1950, in Pippa Passes, Kentucky to Benjamin and Lona (Smith) Jacobs.
On August 9, 1969, in Cromwell, he married Sarah H. “Hazel” Ritchie. She preceded him in death on July 17, 2021.
Mr. Jacobs had worked at BRC Rubber Company in Ligonier as a supervisor.
He was a member of Five Corners Baptist Church in Wolcottville.
He enjoyed gardening, yardwork, playing cards, and building things around the house, always finding satisfaction in creating and caring for the world around him. In recent years, he also discovered a newfound love for cats, who quickly became a source of comfort and companionship.
Surviving are a daughter, Connie (Barry) Thiessen of Columbia City; three sons, Joey (Rhonda) Jacobs of Cromwell, Jamey (Gwen) Jacobs of Statesville, North Carolina, and Joseph C. (Lisa Cochran) Jacobs, Jr. of Topeka; eight grandchildren, Joey (Mary Grace) Jacobs, Jr., Heather (Adam Clute) Jacobs, Stephen (Britni) McIntosh, Kayla (Colin) Briggs, Christopher Smith, Tyler Thiessen, Gavin Portmess, and Madeline Thiessen; three great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Briggs, Liam Briggs, and Charlotte McIntosh; and two sisters, Betty (Richard) Kinney of Arkansas and Nella Rose Gibson of Kentucky.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Shannon Jacobs; his parents; and twelve siblings, Bennie, Mike, Adam, Grace, James, Hiltson, Junior, Donald, Emily, Lonnie, and Monnie; and two brothers-in-law, Bill Whitacer and Berman Gibson.
Celebration of life services will be held at a later date.
Burial will be in Orange Cemetery near Rome City.
Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville is assisting the family with arrangements.
