Obituary

Joseph Mansfield Emerson, 32, of Rome City died Saturday, November 26, 2011, at 2:10 a.m. in Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville following a 3 1/2 month illness.

He graduated from East Noble High School in 1998, where he was active in theater. He was a 2002 graduate of Ball State Honors College in Muncie.

Joe lived and worked in Los Angeles for four years and returned to Rome City to work on the family farm.

He was born October 27, 1979, in Angola to Lawrence E. and Sue Ann (Stump) Emerson. His parents survive in Rome City.

Also surviving are a sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Bruce Slusher of Swanton, Ohio; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Robert Emerson and Dr. Anne-Marie Monty of Carmel; and two nephews, Martin L. Emerson and George D. Emerson both of Carmel.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Allen and Thelma (Myers) Emerson and Raymond and Mary Kathryn (Mahnesmith) Stump and an infant brother, David Emerson in 1975.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the Rome City United Methodist Church with Pastor Barbara Cross and Pastor Mike McKinney officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Orange Cemetery, Rome City.

Calling is Tuesday, November 29, 2011, from 2 to 8 pm. at the church.

Preferred memorials are to the Rome City United Methodist Church or the Rome City Lions Scholarship Fund.
