Jonathan Jeffry "JJ" Atz, 40, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Kendallville went to join his Lord on Monday, November 13, 2017, surrounded by family and close friends. He was ushered into Heaven in a room full of worship and prayer as a small, but meaningful echo of the legacy he leaves behind.
He was born April 24, 1977, in Fort Wayne to Jeffery N. and Jonelle (Ferris) Atz.
On September 29, 2012, in Avilla he married the love of his life, Danielle L. DeCamp and welcomed her daughter, Ava into his heart and later adopted her. They welcomed their second daughter, Aria into this world in 2015.
Mr. Atz worked as a manager of their family business, Puritan Ice Cream Company in Kendallville until the company was sold. For the last five years, he has worked for Prairie Farms in Battle Creek, Michigan.
JJ was a member of Pine Hills Kendallville Church and spent his formative years at First Assembly of God in Fort Wayne, where his love for the Lord and children's ministry were nurtured. He enjoyed loving and raising his children. He will be remembered for his contagious laughter, joy, and love for the Lord.
Surviving are his wife, Danielle; daughters, Ava and Aria; his father and mom, Jeffery and Laurie Atz of Fort Wayne; his mother, Jonelle (Robert Bercher) McCaffrey of Altamonte Springs, Florida; sisters, Jennifer (Brian) Johnson of Deltona, Florida, Angel (Daniel) Moseley of Fort Wayne, and Hope (Zachary) Dykehouse of Columbia City; brothers, Christopher (Angela) Harouff of Fort Wayne and Mark (Geremy) Harouff of St. Louis, Missouri; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sharon and Billy Smith of Kendallville; father-in-law, Joseph DeCamp of Kendallville; paternal grandmother, Rose Marie Atz of Fort Wayne; maternal grandparents, Craig and Laurie McAllister of Sarasota, Florida, and Mike and Beverly McGowan of Venice, Florida; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Sasha (Donnie) Taylor of Kendallville, Scky (Joshua) Marshall of Kendallville, Damien (Amy) DeCamp of Kendallville, Krista (Chad) Robinson of Three Rivers, Michigan, Desiree (Austin Jimenez) DeCamp of Kendallville, Andrew Smith of Kendallville, and Matthew Smith of Kendallville; and nieces and nephews, Laela, Ella, Gabe, Audrey, Rosie, Truly, Savannah, Isabel, Mia, Liam, Brooke, Sean, Charlie, Drew, Raylynn, Grey, Adley, Edeyn, MaKaylee, Kaysen, Brody, Chance, Elijah, Ava, DJ, and Lilah'Rose.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Norman Atz.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the First Assembly of God, 1400 West Washington Center Road, Fort Wayne with Pastor Marc Buwalda of Pine Hills Kendallville Church officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
Honorary pallbearers will be Damien DeCamp, Brian Johnson, Tyler Lash, Josh Marshall, Eric Pio, Chad Robinson, and Andrew Smith. Active pallbearers will be Casey Cormany, Zach Dykehouse, Chris Harouff, Mark Harouff, Daniel Moseley, Matthew Smith, Chris Sparkman, and Donnie Taylor.
Calling will be Tuesday, November 21, 2017, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
Preferred memorials are to the family.
